With Christmas and New Year but a distant memory, we are well and truly back into the swing of things in 6TM and the children have earned their weekend!
In maths, we’ve been converting between different units of measurement (weight, length, volume and time) and next week we’ll be looking at area, perimeter and volume (introductory videos to follow).
In English we’ve continued the discussion we began before Christmas on British values and begun drafting our own Declaration of British Values, covering democracy, law and order, individual liberty and respect for different beliefs and religions. The formal style and tone is not the most familiar to the children – and the subject matter is complex – and so this is a challenging piece of writing. Everyone has made a good start and hopefully there’ll be some finished Declarations on the blog at the end of next week.
Science this half-term will be taught by Ms Paton on Wednesday afternoons. It’s on the fascinating topic of evolution – right from the emergence of life thousands of millions of years ago, to the current speculation on a post-human future, as we are upgraded or replaced by computers and robots!
Lastly, we had a good discussion on some of the principles of staying safe online. The children were savvy and well-informed and knew all the important ‘dos and don’ts’. We will return to this topic in e-safety week at Rosendale later in the spring.
Have a good weekend
